How To Make A Hood

How To Make A Hood

Logo for How To Make A Hood, an art exhibition* at The Arts Incubator in Washington Park, in Chicago, Illinois, curated by La Keisha Leek.

Below is the show text:

"How to Make A Hood unfolds a wide canon of stereotypes that foster misconceptions as they relate to black bodies and their environments.

The artists represented in this exhibition produce work that in some fashion explore the multi-faceted characteristics of the word -hood; a slang term for a black neighborhood, cultural theory references such objecthood, personhood and negrohood, and hood referencing the hoodie of Trayvon Martin that served as a signifier along with him being a objectified young black male in which an act of racial in justice occurred."

*Full disclosure: I was one of the exhibiting artists.
